Adding motif to something unusual makes the motif feel unusual. Chevron stripes on pony hair desert boots from 80/20, and on a hand-made mug from Matthew Hyleck.
Inverted values: Le Labo for Anthropologie Concrete Perfume packaging. I wonder if the concept of antique "measuring weights" was decided on before or after this was actually designed. Emphasizing the weight instead of the logo already speaks to an apothecary aesthetic -- was that alone not conceptual enough? Brings up interesting questions of concept and execution, I think. Also, probably wouldn't work without Grasse -- New York, even if they are an anti-brand. Altogether pretty packaging reminds me of other fave perfume solid -- In Fiore.
On a recent trip to the British Museum: "The original appearance of these vessels is difficult to imagine because they are usually heavily weathered. This modern copy gives a vivid idea of how beautiful they once were."

Found on Via del Pellegrino in Rome, a small shop that was closed when I walked by. Hand-painted furniture, matching lamps, and clever signage, too.
Wooden Nasomatto (top) and Anicka Yi & Maggie Peng (middle, found at Ooga Booga) perfume packaging reminds me of Sunshine Spa's perfume oils I used to wear when I was in high school, back in the 90s. Drawn to Sunshine Spa because I loved the wooden caps (though clearly not the labels), these new wooden packages are sophisticated additions. Actually, the old Sunshine Spa label, with it's red fan motif, was not half as bad as their recent yellow redesign.
